Department:CHP | Dental HygieneDepartment's Website: https://healthprofessions.uams.edu/programs/dentalhygiene/ Summary of Job Duties:Title: Faculty, Clinical CoordinatorRank: Instructor/Assistant Professor; Non-Tenure Track Position Announcement The Department of Dental Hygiene in the College of Health Professions at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is seeking a full-time, 9-month faculty member, located in Little Rock, Arkansas. The expectations are to be present from August through May, with time off during December and January, and no work required in June and July. We are searching for a team-oriented faculty member. Academic rank and salary are commensurate with experience and qualifications. The faculty member will report to the Assistant Program Director of the dental hygiene program and will have primary responsibility of serving as the Clinic Coordinator; overseeing the daily operations of the UAMS Dental Hygiene Student Clinic; coordinating student clinical schedules; tracking student clinical progress; developing faculty calibration sessions; assisting with radiography laboratory, pre-clinical and clinical teaching and providing supervision; contributing to program and curriculum assessment and planning activities; and participating in university, community, and professional service. The Program The Dental Hygiene program is 5-semesters in length and offers a Bachelor of Science degree. The program admits 36 students per year, utilizing an individualized, holistic admission process that considers both academic and non-academic admission factors. The curriculum emphasizes active learning methods that focus on integration and application of material and critical thinking skills. In-class sessions incorporate problem-based and team-based learning, as well as inter-professional learning experiences. In addition to a large on-campus clinic, the program maintains clinical affiliations with Arkansas Children's Hospital, Future Smiles Dental Clinic (at Wakefield Elementary School in Little Rock), and the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System in North Little Rock. The program is accredited by the Council on Dental Accreditation, American Dental Association. UAMS is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. Additional Information: CLINIC COORDINATOR Position Description The Clinical Coordinator will primarily oversee the daily operations of the UAMS Dental Hygiene Student Clinic and manage student clinical schedules. They will assist with radiography laboratory, preclinical and clinical instruction, and provide supervision. Additional duties include organizing two to three calibration sessions annually for adjunct and core faculty at UAMS and rotation sites, establishing new clinical rotation sites when necessary, evaluating clinical sites and preceptors, and tracking student progress throughout the semester. The Clinic Coordinator will also assist in updating the competency-based clinical curriculum as needed and be actively involved in clinical remediation efforts.
